Egyptian Woman Reportedly Among 12 Killed in Riyadh Airport Attack
An Egyptian woman was among 12 people killed at King Khalid International Airport, as EgyptAir and Air Cairo suspended Riyadh flights following the strike.
An Egyptian woman was among 12 people killed in Saturday’s attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, according to Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation. The authority said the dead included four Saudi citizens and eight residents: two from Bangladesh and one each from Egypt, the United States, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.
A total of 309 people were injured, some critically, and are receiving treatment at several hospitals. Saudi authorities have not publicly identified the Egyptian victim, although a medical source at a Riyadh hospital said she worked as a flight attendant for a Saudi airline.
The civil aviation authority did not identify who carried out Saturday’s attack. A diplomatic source attributed the strike to a missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi movement, which had not claimed responsibility for the incident by Saturday night. The attack was the third to hit King Khalid International Airport during the week, following earlier strikes that caused further deaths and injuries.
Operations at the airport were suspended after the attack, prompting cancellations and diversions by several airlines. EgyptAir suspended flights from Cairo and Alexandria to Riyadh until operations resume, allowing passengers on affected services to reroute through other Saudi cities or request refunds without cancellation fees. Air Cairo also suspended Riyadh flights from Cairo and Sohag on October 11th and 12th.
Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack, describing it as a violation of international law and a threat to civilian safety, while reaffirming Egypt’s support for Saudi Arabia’s security and sovereignty.
