735 Electric Buses Set for Rollout Across Dubai in 2026
Charging infrastructure and pilot routes are already in place as Dubai scales electric and hydrogen-powered transport systems.
A fleet of 735 electric buses is set to be introduced across Dubai in 2026 as part of a long-term plan to transition public transport to zero emissions. The rollout is being led by the Roads and Transport Authority, which said the buses will be delivered progressively throughout the year. The deployment forms part of a broader strategy that includes both electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, aligned with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the UAE’s national climate neutrality targets.
Supporting infrastructure has already been developed across five major depots, with 32 high-capacity 360-kilowatt chargers installed in Al Quoz, Al Ruwayyah, Lehbab, Business Bay, and Jebel Ali. One of the new buses is currently operating on Route F13, with a range of up to 370 kilometres per charge powered by a 470-kilowatt-hour battery.
Performance is being assessed using technical and operational indicators, including battery range, charging time, energy consumption, overall efficiency, emissions reduction, and noise levels. Initial data indicates strong performance on short- and medium-distance urban routes, alongside satisfaction levels exceeding 95% among drivers and passengers.
Environmental data from the network showed a 12% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in 2025 compared to 2024, and a 44% reduction relative to 2022 levels. The use of electric buses contributed to avoiding more than 59,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions during the year.
