Abdel Halim Hafez's Zamalek Apartment Limits Visits After Incident

Public visits to the Zamalek apartment of late Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez will continue under stricter conditions after his family suspended online bookings following an incident involving a visitor who was photographed lying on the artist's bed.

Mohamed Shabana, Hafez's nephew, said the apartment has not been permanently closed, clarifying that future visits will take place only through prior coordination with the family and will be limited to trusted individuals to help preserve the home and its contents. He added that the family's annual open day for fans, held on the anniversary of Hafez's passing, will continue within a more organised framework.

According to the family, the decision follows repeated difficulties managing daily visits and instances of inappropriate behaviour that could damage the apartment's furnishings and personal belongings. Online reservations have now been discontinued as part of efforts to safeguard the property and honour Hafez's wishes.

Located in Zamalek, the apartment has long attracted visitors from Egypt and across the Arab world. It houses personal belongings, documents, photographs and memorabilia preserved from Hafez's lifetime, including his bedroom and study, which have been maintained in their original condition.
