Abu Dhabi Begins Wearable Women's Health Study With ŌURA Ring Maker
The programme will study women’s health and cardiometabolic risk using continuous data from smart devices.
he Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has launched a joint research programme with ŌURA to study how continuous data from wearable devices can support preventive healthcare. The initiative will use data from the Oura Ring to analyse health indicators in real time, combining this with Abu Dhabi’s public health infrastructure and long-term datasets to build population-level insights and identify risk factors.
The programme will initially focus on women’s health, with research covering preconception and perinatal care to support earlier intervention and improve long-term health outcomes. It will also examine cardiometabolic conditions, with plans to expand into additional areas as the research develops.
Officials said the initiative is designed to support a shift from reactive care to more personalised and preventive healthcare models, using continuous monitoring to detect risks earlier.
The partnership will operate under a data governance framework that includes anonymisation, consent-based data sharing, and secure storage aligned with UAE regulations and international standards.
The next phase will focus on pilot programme design, ethics approvals, and the development of local evidence, with the aim of integrating findings into Abu Dhabi’s healthcare system over time.
