Al Ain International Airport Renamed Tahnoun International Airport
The airport’s new name honours the late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan and takes effect on October 11th.
Al Ain International Airport has been renamed Tahnoun International Airport in honour of the late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan. The change, directed by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, takes effect on October 11th, 2026.
Sheikh Tahnoun served as the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Ain Region until his death in 2024. Over the course of his public career, he also held senior roles including chairman of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and deputy chairman of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi.
He maintained longstanding ties with the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and was closely associated with Al Ain throughout his tenure. In 2018, the Dubai–Al Ain road was also renamed in his honour.
The airport renaming recognises Sheikh Tahnoun’s decades of service to the UAE and his longstanding connection to the Al Ain Region.
