Al-Khobar to Add 20,000 Trees & 100,000 Shrubs

The Eastern Region Municipality has launched a new tree-planting programme in Al-Khobar Governorate, targeting more than 20 kilometres of roads during the current agricultural season. The initiative includes planting more than 20,000 trees and 100,000 shrubs, while expanding green spaces by over 60,000 square metres.

Planting will be distributed across main roads and residential neighbourhoods, with a focus on increasing shade trees and integrating more vegetation into areas where residents live and travel. The municipality said the programme is intended to improve the urban environment, expand green coverage and increase access to planted and shaded spaces across Al-Khobar.

The initiative also aims to improve air quality, enhance the city’s visual character and increase the per capita share of green space. According to the municipality, the programme forms part of wider Ministry of Municipalities and Housing strategies focused on urban greenery, liveability and quality of life.
