Armed Forces Establishes its First Civilian University in the New Capital
Kayan University will offer programmes in medicine, engineering and artificial intelligence.
Kayan University has been launched as the Armed Forces' first civilian-status university, with its inaugural academic year set to begin in October 2026.
The university's first phase comprises six colleges: Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Engineering, and Computers and Artificial Intelligence. Supporting facilities include an integrated university hospital, a medical simulation centre and a physiotherapy and rehabilitation centre.
According to the Armed Forces, the university will adopt internationally aligned curricula delivered by faculty members and experts from Egyptian universities and the Armed Forces. The campus will also include modern laboratories, digital infrastructure, simulation centres and advanced training facilities.
The integrated university hospital will provide clinical training through medical and surgical departments, critical care units, emergency services and smart operating rooms. Meanwhile, the Pharmacy College will offer a PharmD programme supported by laboratories specialising in drug design, artificial intelligence applications, molecular biology and quality control.
The Engineering College will offer programmes in electronics and communications, electrical power and energy, biomedical engineering, mechanical power and energy, mechatronics, and design and manufacturing. The College of Computers and Artificial Intelligence will offer programmes in computer science, software engineering, cybersecurity, data science and artificial intelligence, and intelligent systems, with a focus on project-based learning.
Admissions are open to male and female civilian students holding General Secondary, Al Azhar Secondary or equivalent certificates. Minimum admission requirements are 90% for Medicine, 89% for Dentistry, 88% for Physiotherapy, 87% for Pharmacy, 85% for Engineering, and 80% for Computers and Artificial Intelligence. Applicants must also pass medical, physical and psychological examinations, aptitude tests and a personal interview.
