Cairo Climbs 47 Places in 2026 Global Cities Index

Cairo climbed 47 places to rank 255th worldwide in Oxford Economics’ 2026 Global Cities Index, improving from 302nd in the previous edition. The index assesses 1,000 cities across economics, human capital, quality of life, environment and governance.

Although still outside the global top 100, Cairo remains Egypt’s principal economic centre, supported by sectors including information and communications technology, business activities and services.

Oxford Economics also highlighted Port Said and Suez, which recorded the second- and third-fastest GDP growth rates respectively among cities covered by the index. Their performance reflects the economic role of the Suez Canal corridor and its concentration of trade, logistics and related activity.

Elsewhere in the region, Dubai ranked 42nd after entering the global top 50 for the first time, while Riyadh placed 50th and Abu Dhabi 84th. New York topped the overall ranking, followed by London and Paris, with European and North American cities accounting for 78 of the top 100 positions.
