Cancer Mortality Rate Falls 23.1% Between 2018 & 2024

The age-standardised cancer mortality rate fell by 23.1% between 2018 and 2024, according to figures released by the Ministry of Health and Population.

The rate declined from 107.1 deaths per 100,000 people in 2018 to 82.4 in 2024. The age-standardised calculation adjusts for changes in the population’s age structure, allowing mortality trends to be compared more accurately across different years.

Ministry spokesperson Dr Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said cancer control depends on prevention, public awareness, early detection, timely access to healthcare, treatment and follow-up.

He added that tracking both incidence and mortality helps identify where greater intervention is needed and assess how health policies and programmes are performing.

The ministry also urged people to pay attention to known risk factors, make use of early detection services and seek medical advice when symptoms warrant further investigation.
