The agreements will be signed during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s Jakarta visit alongside a new strategic partnership action plan.
Egypt and Indonesia are set to sign agreements covering visas, fisheries and statistical cooperation during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Jakarta, alongside an action plan to deepen the two countries’ strategic partnership.
The visit programme includes a private meeting between President El-Sisi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, followed by bilateral talks and the signing of the memoranda. The trip follows Subianto’s visits to Egypt in 2024 and 2025 and comes after relations were elevated to a strategic partnership in April 2025.
Trade between the two countries reached USD 1.6 billion during the first eight months of 2026, up from USD 1.4 billion in the same period last year, according to Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics. Egyptian exports to Indonesia fell to $66 million from USD 120 million, while imports rose to USD 1.5 billion from USD 1.3 billion.
Egypt’s main exports to Indonesia included salt, sulphur, stone and cement worth USD 39 million, along with vegetables and fruit worth USD 10.5 million. Major imports included animal and vegetable fats and oils valued at USD 1.1 billion, followed by coffee, tea and spices at USD 132 million. Around 1,000 Egyptians were estimated to be living in Indonesia at the end of 2025.
