Egypt & World Bank Sign USD 1 Billion Deal to Boost Economic Reforms
The financing will support private-sector growth, fiscal reforms and Egypt’s green transition.
The Egyptian government has signed a USD 1 billion financing agreement with the World Bank to support economic reforms, expand private-sector participation and advance the transition towards a green economy.
The agreement was signed under the second phase of the Development Policy Financing programme, branded ‘Generating Resilience, Opportunities, and Welfare for a Thriving Egypt’. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended the signing.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Egypt’s Governor at the World Bank Badr Abdelatty signed the agreement with Alwaleed Alatabani, the World Bank’s Division Director for Egypt, Yemen and Djibouti.
The financing represents the second operation in a three-phase programme approved by the World Bank Group’s Board of Executive Directors in May 2026. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the programme supports measures aimed at creating jobs through private-sector growth, strengthening public financial management and fiscal sustainability, protecting vulnerable groups and supporting the green transition.
The ministry said the agreement also forms part of efforts to secure concessional development financing and deepen cooperation with international and regional financial institutions. Related reforms include reducing barriers to investment, increasing private-sector participation and improving the management of public finances.
