El Nasr Begins MAGE EV Production With 45% Local Content
The state-owned manufacturer has begun assembling the electric vehicle through a partnership with SN Automotive and Safi Group.
State-owned El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company has begun production of the MAGE EV, described as Egypt’s first locally manufactured electric vehicle, with local components accounting for up to 45% of the model.
The vehicle, produced under China’s Dongfeng MAGE brand, is being assembled at El Nasr’s factories through a partnership with SN Automotive, the brand’s local agent, and Safi Group. The launch was attended by Industry Minister Khaled Hashem, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat and senior automotive officials.
Hashem said the Ministry of Industry plans to build on the project by increasing local content and expanding domestic production of automotive components. The longer-term objective is to develop an integrated manufacturing base capable of serving local demand while supplying regional and international markets.
The ministry is also developing the Automotive Industry Development Programme, which offers incentives tied to higher local added value, increased production and investment, and environmental standards. Officials are targeting further localisation in areas including battery systems, electric motors and automotive electronics as electric vehicle manufacturing expands.
Esmat said El Nasr’s facilities have undergone upgrades across assembly, painting and welding lines, alongside staff training and new production lines developed with private-sector partners. The company is also producing environmentally friendly buses with local content exceeding 60%, as well as minibuses and electric vehicles.
