Grand Egyptian Museum Records 6.5 Million Visitors Since Opening

The Grand Egyptian Museum has recorded more than 6.5 million visitors since its official opening on November 1st, 2025, placing it at the top of global museum visitation figures in 2026, according to Egypt’s 2025/2026 economic and social development plan.

The museum, built near the Giza Pyramids and dedicated to ancient Egyptian civilisation, officially opened with international leaders and dignitaries in attendance.

The development plan also outlines several operational updates introduced since the opening. An upgraded online booking platform went live in April 2026 to streamline reservations, tighten ticket controls and prevent manipulation of the booking system.

Interactive exhibition halls have also been fully activated, including displays using enhanced hologram technology to present objects from the collection of King Tutankhamun.

The figures were included in the economic and social development plan presented by Planning Minister Ahmed Rustum and approved by both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The plan identifies archaeological and historical tourism as a priority area, with further measures scheduled for implementation during the 2026/2027 period.
