Grand Egyptian Museum Welcomes Three Million Visitors in Seven Months

More than three million people visited the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) between December 2025 and June 2026, with foreign visitors accounting for 60% of total attendance, according to GEM CEO Ahmed Ghoneim.
Ghoneim said the museum now receives between 7,000 and 10,000 visitors a day, down from daily peaks of around 24,000 recorded when it first opened.

He also announced that the museum is taking steps to combat fraudulent ticketing websites, revealing that an agreement is being finalised with local mobile operators to remove the unauthorised sites from the internet.
The museum is also preparing to open a new library in partnership with France. The facility will house around 17,000 books on history, civilisation and heritage in multiple languages.

According to Ghoneim, the museum's visitor numbers place it alongside some of the world's most visited cultural institutions, including the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., the Prado Museum in Madrid, and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
