International Driving Permit Issued in 5 Minutes at Dubai Airport
Eligible UAE licence holders can now obtain an International Driving Permit 24/7 at Terminal 3 Arrivals.
Dubai residents and citizens can now obtain an International Driving Permit in as little as five minutes at Dubai International Airport through a new 24/7 service at the Customer Happiness Centre in Terminal 3 Arrivals.
The service was launched by the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority, the Emirates Automobile and Touring Club and Amer.
Applicants must hold a valid UAE driving licence and present an Emirates ID, a copy of their passport and a personal photograph. Authorities said integrated digital systems automatically verify applicant details and approve requests, allowing the permit to be issued within five minutes.
An International Driving Permit serves as an internationally recognised translation of a domestic driving licence, allowing overseas authorities to verify a motorist’s credentials. It must be used alongside a valid UAE driving licence and is valid for one year from the date of issue.
The permit allows holders to drive legally in many countries without taking additional tests or applying for a separate local licence, subject to local rules.
Existing application channels remain available. Through the Roads and Transport Authority, applicants pay AED 197 in total, including AED 177 for the permit and AED 20 in Knowledge and Innovation fees. A digital permit is issued before collection or delivery of the original, with additional delivery charges where applicable.
The Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE also offers online and counter applications. Its website lists a fee of AED 170 plus VAT, with online applications generally processed within three working days and delivery taking up to five working days. Counter applications can be completed in around 30 minutes.
