Maysan Governorate Tops Saudi Arabia Clean Air Rankings
The Makkah Region governorate topped the Kingdom’s air-quality rankings for the third quarter of 2026.
Maysan governorate in Makkah Region ranked first in Saudi Arabia for the cleanest air during the third quarter of 2026, according to results released by the National Center for Environmental Compliance. Hail Region recorded the largest number of entries in the top ten, with four governorates, while Makkah and Qassim each had two and Jouf and Madinah had one apiece.
The ranking was based on air-quality measurements assessed against national standards and reference benchmarks from the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Gulf Cooperation Council’s General Secretariat. These benchmarks are used to compare monitored areas using standardised scientific and technical criteria.
The National Center for Environmental Compliance said the results help track pollutant levels and changes in air quality across governorates, providing data that can inform environmental oversight and measures aimed at reducing pollution and protecting public health.
