Mobile Subscriptions in Egypt Reach 125.6 Million in Q1 2026

Mobile subscriptions in Egypt rose to 125.65 million during the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 8.47% compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology's March 2026 ICT Indicators Bulletin.

The report also recorded 94.43 million active mobile internet subscriptions, up 9.48% year-on-year, while mobile penetration reached 112.61% by the end of the quarter. Mobile lines accounted for nearly 90% of all telephone subscriptions.

Combined mobile and fixed-line subscriptions totalled around 139.96 million during the quarter, up from 129.21 million a year earlier.

Fixed broadband subscriptions increased 9% year-on-year to 12.95 million, while data-only mobile internet lines for non-phone devices grew by 19.45% to 4.06 million. Fixed-line subscriptions reached 14.31 million, including 11.55 million urban subscribers and 2.76 million rural subscribers.

Fixed-line penetration rose to 12.80%, although the total capacity of fixed lines declined to 17.79 million from 18.59 million in the first quarter of 2025.

The ministry also highlighted findings from its 2022/2023 Household ICT Survey, which recorded internet penetration at 72.2%.

Internet usage stood at 79.3% among males and 65.2% among females. E-commerce activity also continued to expand.

The share of internet users searching online for goods and services increased to 72.67% from 63.30% in 2019/2020, while the proportion making online purchases rose to 50.06% from 17.80%.

Cash on delivery remained the most widely used payment method for online purchases at 98.4%, while mobile payments were used by 7.2% of online shoppers.
