October 8th Declared Paid Holiday for Armed Forces Day
The holiday will apply to government bodies, public authorities, local administrations and public-sector companies nationwide.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has designated Thursday, October 8th, 2026 as an official paid holiday to mark Armed Forces Day, which commemorates the anniversary of Egypt’s October War victory.
Celebrated annually on October 6, Armed Forces Day marks the start of the October War of 1973 and is a national public holiday in Egypt.
The decision applies to employees across ministries, government agencies, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies and public business sector companies nationwide.
While the anniversary falls on Tuesday, October 6th this year, the official paid day off has been moved to Thursday, October 8th.
