Over 92,000 Fatwas Issued in Dubai in First Half of 2026

The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) in Dubai issued more than 92,000 fatwas during the first half of 2026, delivering religious rulings through an integrated system spanning verbal, digital, written and in-person consultation channels.

According to the department, the total included more than 86,000 verbal fatwas, around 4,900 electronic fatwas, more than 1,200 rulings issued through Fatwa Councils, approximately 120 written fatwas, and nearly 80 in-person consultations.

The department reported an on-time response rate of 94% for fatwa requests during the first six months of the year. Electronic fatwas were issued in an average of 2.5 days, while written fatwas took an average of five days. During the second quarter of 2026, the on-time response rate exceeded 88%.

To support the service, IACAD also organised around 260 Fatwa Council sessions during the first half of the year to address religious enquiries from the community.

His Eminence Dr Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al Haddad, Grand Mufti and Director of the Fatwa Department, said the system continues to evolve by combining established Islamic scholarship with modern technology to improve access to religious guidance.

According to Al Haddad, the department's fatwas are based on the Holy Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the consensus of Islamic scholars, while also taking into account contemporary issues and the changing needs of society.
