Palestinian Football Association Announces ‘Thousand Martyrs Cup’

The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) has announced the return of football activity in Palestine after a three-year hiatus, with the 'Thousand Martyrs Cup' set to launch on September 4th.

The tournament will feature 226 clubs across Palestine and Lebanon. Three opening matches will take place simultaneously: Jabal Al-Mukaber vs Shabab Al-Khalil in the northern governorates, Shabab Rafah vs Khadamat Rafah in the southern governorates, and Al-Ansar vs Al-Nahda in Lebanon.

The first round will follow a group-stage format at the governorate and branch levels, with the federation providing participating clubs with funding for necessary equipment and transportation. The PFA also called on FIFA, continental and national federations, and the international sporting community to support Palestinian sport and protect the rights of players, clubs and children to participate freely and with dignity.

PFA president Jibril Rajoub revealed the creation of three versions of the ‘Thousand Martyrs Cup’ trophy, each bearing the names of the 1,014 martyred athletes.

Palestine will also participate in the upcoming Asian Games in Japan with a delegation of 108 athletes.
