President El-Sisi Orders Flexible Electricity Bill Payments

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has directed the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to tighten supervision of electricity billing, end the use of arbitrary estimates and make it easier for citizens to settle overdue amounts.

President El-Sisi called for electricity bills to be reviewed carefully to ensure accuracy, with direct and audited oversight from the ministry. He also instructed officials to avoid estimated charges that are not based on verified consumption.

The ministry was also asked to examine options for facilitating repayment of outstanding electricity bills and to provide regular updates on the measures introduced.

The electricity directives formed part of a broader set of instructions concerning public services. President El-Sisi also called for continued market oversight, expanded government sales outlets for essential goods and closer field monitoring of services provided to citizens.

Further instructions included completing mass transit projects within their planned timelines, improving road conditions and strengthening direct communication with citizens over complaints, service issues and ongoing government measures.
