Sunday Remote Work Extended for Government Employees in May 2026
The extension keeps the same framework introduced earlier this year as part of energy-saving measures.
Sunday remote working will continue for employees in selected government entities across Egypt throughout May 2026, following a decision approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Dr Mostafa Madbouly.
The move extends the implementation of Prime Ministerial Decree No. 982 of 2026, which designates Sunday as a remote workday for employees in entities covered by the decision.
The framework remains unchanged, with one remote working day per week applied to the same institutions.
The policy was originally introduced in April 2026 as part of a broader set of measures aimed at reducing energy consumption amid rising global energy prices linked to regional developments.
While the remote work arrangement will remain in place through May, other elements of the earlier energy-saving measures have been adjusted.
Standard operating hours have been restored for shops, malls and restaurants, reversing previous restrictions that required earlier closing times.
The extension does not introduce any changes to the structure or scope of the policy. Sunday remains the designated remote workday, and the measure continues to apply only to the entities specified in the original decree.
