Sunken Cities of Egypt Exhibition Heads to Chicago
A total of 275 artefacts from Egypt's submerged ancient cities will go on display in 2027.
An exhibition showcasing 275 artefacts recovered from Egypt's submerged ancient cities will open at Chicago's Field Museum in 2027, following approval by the Egyptian Cabinet.
Titled 'Sunken Cities of Egypt – Isis', the exhibition will run from February 20th to September 19th, 2027, excluding the periods required for packing, transport and shipping.
According to the Cabinet, the exhibition will bring together artefacts recovered from underwater archaeological sites, offering international audiences the opportunity to explore the history of Egypt's ancient coastal settlements through objects excavated beneath the sea.
The government said the exhibition forms part of wider efforts to promote Egypt's ancient civilisation internationally and expand the presence of Egyptian antiquities at leading museums around the world. The Cabinet also confirmed that logistical arrangements have been made to facilitate the transport and display of the artefacts at the Field Museum in Chicago.
