Temperatures to Drop by Up to 5°C Across Egypt This Week

Egypt is expected to see temperatures fall by 4–5°C this week following several days of intense heat, with cooler conditions forecast across Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta and northern Upper Egypt, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA).

The change comes after last week's heatwave, which saw temperatures in Greater Cairo climb to 42°C on Thursday, alongside similarly high readings in several other parts of the country.

Between Monday and Friday, daytime temperatures in Greater Cairo and the Nile Delta are forecast to range between 35°C and 37°C. Along the North Coast, highs are expected to reach 30–32°C, including around 29°C in Alexandria and 30°C in Marsa Matrouh.

Further south, northern Upper Egypt is forecast to record daytime highs of 36–39°C, while southern Upper Egypt will remain the hottest part of the country, with temperatures expected to reach 42–44°C.

The authority noted that humidity will continue to make conditions feel 2–4°C warmer than the recorded temperatures, despite the expected drop. Intermittent winds are also forecast across much of the country.

The EMA added that morning mist may form on roads in northern Egypt, Greater Cairo, the Canal cities, central Sinai and northern Upper Egypt, potentially reducing visibility during the early hours.

The authority advised residents to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, particularly during the afternoon, drink plenty of water and remain in well-ventilated areas during the warmer parts of the day.
