Three Community Markets Open for Workers Across Dubai

Three integrated community markets for workers are now operating in Muhaisnah 2, Al Quoz Industrial Area 3 and Al Quoz 4, with a fourth site in Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1 expected to open in the coming months.

Together, the projects span more than 69,000 square metres and include 866 kiosks and stalls across the three operational locations. Each market provides eight types of services, including food kiosks, fruit and vegetable shops, meat and fish outlets, barber shops, tailoring services, sports facilities and spaces for health awareness and community events.

The markets are designed to place essential goods and everyday services closer to workers’ accommodation, while also providing recreational and community facilities.

Dubai Municipality said more than 640,000 workers have benefited from the initiative so far, with satisfaction reaching 99%. More than 69 community events have also been held across the sites, recording over 800,000 attendances.

The municipality has additionally organised 16 workshops covering health and safety, food safety, first aid, public health and emergency preparedness, benefiting more than 16,500 workers.

Private-sector partners are involved in operating and managing the markets, with health, safety and sustainability requirements built into the model. The initiative has also received external recognition, including a Category A award from the British Safety Council, and is intended to serve as a scalable model for similar facilities elsewhere in Dubai and the UAE.
