UAE-Developed AI Feeder Tracks & Feeds Wildlife in Dubai

A UAE-developed smart wildlife feeder is using artificial intelligence to identify animals, monitor their numbers and adjust feed quantities automatically at Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve in Dubai.

Developed by Dub Dev Technology, the Mghzlan Smart Feeder combines computer vision, Internet of Things technology and solar power to support remote wildlife feeding and monitoring.

When animals approach, day-and-night cameras identify their species, count them and record arrival times. The system also tracks how much feed is consumed and how much remains, allowing quantities to be adjusted according to activity at each location.

Operators can remotely monitor multiple feeders through a platform that records animal activity, feed consumption, stock levels, temperature and humidity. Alerts can also be triggered when a unit needs replenishment or when people or vehicles are detected nearby.

According to Dub Dev Technology, the system processes more than 15 million images a year, with species-classification confidence typically ranging from 80% to 97%. Field tests reported similar performance when identifying gazelles, oryx, antelopes and birds in crowded or low-light conditions.

The device has dispensed more than 50 tonnes of feed over a year and has been deployed in more than three countries. The company has also developed a bird-feeding version, while its computer vision system can recognise other wildlife including rabbits.
