UAE Launches First AI Weather Forecasting Assistants

The National Centre of Meteorology has launched the UAE's first agentic artificial intelligence assistants for the meteorological sector, introducing new AI tools to support weather forecasting and early warning operations.

The centre has also approved a roadmap to expand the use of the technology across its services, beginning with the deployment of two AI assistants—Al-Rasid and Forecaster Assistant—within operational forecasting environments.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology, Al-Rasid has been developed for continuous monitoring and early warning. It operates around the clock, analysing data in real time from weather stations, radar systems, meteorological satellites, seismic monitoring networks and air quality stations. The system generates visual alerts when unusual conditions or threshold exceedances are detected and produces an updated national weather briefing with forecasts for the days ahead.

The Forecaster Assistant focuses on analysing numerical weather prediction models, comparing outputs from multiple global forecasting systems, assessing forecast uncertainty and identifying discrepancies. It also prepares draft weather and marine bulletins and generates an intelligent dashboard highlighting potential weather hazards.

The centre said all AI-generated analyses remain subject to review and approval by meteorological specialists, with human experts retaining responsibility for final forecasting decisions.

Future phases of the roadmap will expand the use of agentic AI into climate services, multi-hazard early warning, air quality monitoring, aviation meteorology, seismology and media communications.
