UAE Mosques to Hold Rain Prayer on October 9th

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has called for the prayer for rain, known as Salat Al Istisqaa, to be performed at mosques across the country on Friday, October 9th.

The President called on worshippers to pray for rain and mercy in accordance with the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad. Salat Al Istisqaa is traditionally performed during periods when communities seek rainfall.

The prayer comes as the National Centre of Meteorology forecasts above-average rainfall in the UAE between October and January, as the country enters its cooler and wetter season. The authority has described this year’s El Niño as very strong and said the climate pattern can be an indicator of increased rainfall, with heavy rain possible at times if suitable weather conditions develop.
