USD 1.8 Billion Energy Storage Factory Underway in Egypt

Trial production at a new energy storage battery factory in Egypt is scheduled to begin by the end of next year, with total investment estimated at USD 1.8 billion, according to a source at the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.

The project forms part of a national plan to expand reliance on renewable energy and strengthen the stability of the electricity grid. Officials said the facility will support the integration of solar and wind power by enabling more efficient storage and use of generated energy.

The factory is positioned within a broader strategy to scale up energy storage capacity, particularly during peak demand periods, while reducing energy losses and improving operational efficiency.

Authorities said work on the project is progressing according to schedule, with the facility described as one of the largest energy storage initiatives in the region.

The wider plan also includes the development of energy storage stations across several governorates, including Minya, Alexandria and Qena.

These facilities will operate both within and independently of the national grid, with a combined capacity of up to 4,000 megawatts.
