Wafaa Al-Marzouqi Becomes First Saudi Woman Consul General in Houston
Al-Marzouqi has been appointed Consul General in Houston, becoming the first Saudi woman to hold the diplomatic post.
Wafaa bint Abdullah bin Abdulkarim Al-Marzouqi has been appointed Saudi Arabia’s Consul General in Houston, Texas, becoming the first Saudi woman to serve as a Consul General.
Al-Marzouqi took the official oath before Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan following her appointment. She will oversee Saudi consular representation in Houston, provide services and assistance to Saudi citizens, and support the Kingdom’s interests in the area.
Her appointment follows her promotion to Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in May 2025, which was approved by the Council of Ministers alongside promotions for a number of other Saudi diplomats.
Al-Marzouqi joins a growing number of Saudi women serving in senior diplomatic roles. Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan became the Kingdom’s first female ambassador when she was appointed Ambassador to the United States in 2019.
The Houston posting marks another step in the expansion of women’s representation within Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic service, including senior roles in embassies, consulates and international organisations.
