Lebanese Artist Fadi Mohem & Ben Klock Release Single 'Clean Slate'

Berlin-based Lebanese artist Fadi Mohem and German techno giant Ben Klock have recently released ‘Clean Slate’, a single from their upcoming collaborative album ‘Layer One’.

Raised in Spandau on the outskirts of Berlin, Fadi Mohem is a techno DJ and producer whose versatile sound, encompassing influences from Detroit techno and Berlin dub, drum & bass and IDM has established him as one of the most promising artists globally, garnering him a residency at Berlin’s famed Berghain. Meanwhile, Ben Klock is a veteran techno producer and Berghain resident at the forefront of Berlin’s modern techno movement.

The single ‘Clean Slate’ features British artist and NTS Radio Host, Coby Sey, as a guest vocalist. The song’s lyrics, co-written by Coby, are almost like spoken poetry, placed against the backdrop of an eerie, ominous beat and repetitive electronic pulses, offering a preview of the experimental approach Mohem and Klock are taking for their collaborative project.

Set for release on November 29th,  the duo's collaborative album ‘Layer One’ marks the debut release of their newly established joint label, Layer. Encompassing 10 tracks, the record will see Mohem and Klock departing their usual techno sound, venturing into a new sonic territory of more sparse, ambient, experimental and IDM-focused.

‘’The conceptual direction of ‘Layer One’ delves into a post-human world, where humans are close to extinction on earth, leaving only digital fossils and machine-generated images capturing fleeting moments of non-human photography, as AI remains in a world that quietly thrives without us,’’ Mohem and Klock tells SceneNoise. ‘’We do not perceive this as a bleak apocalyptic dystopia, but more a sober reflection of a world that continues to exist, indifferent to the absence of humanity.’’

Despite the unremitting setting, the album touches on the remains of human sensibilities found along that journey through apocalyptic dystopia.
