Maurice Louca’s ‘Salute the Parrot’ Turns 10 With Remix Compilation
The 10th anniversary will be celebrated with a special live performance at Cairo Jazz Club 610 on December 4th.
Maurice Louca’s influential album ‘Benhayyi Al-Baghbaghan’ (‘Salute the Parrot’) is being reimagined a decade after its original release with a new remix album, featuring seven tracks that have been reworked by some of the most innovative artists in the Arab music scene. The compilation includes contributions from Deena Abdelwahed, Julmud, El Waili, Noise Dive, El Kontessa, 3Phaz and 3xOJ, each bringing their unique perspective to the project.
The remix album highlights the record’s enduring influence on contemporary music. Deena Abdelwahed reinterprets 'The Golden Age' with her signature experimental style, while Noise Dive offers a layered take on 'Idiot'. El Waili revisits 'Salute the Parrot', intensifying its rhythms, and El Kontessa delivers a darker, cinematic version of 'Rupture'. Julmud infuses 'Salt Pans' with fresh energy, as 3Phaz reshapes 'It Will Set' with bold percussive elements. Finally, 3xOJ closes with an evocative rework.
To mark the occasion, the 10th anniversary will be celebrated with a special live performance at Cairo Jazz Club 610 on December 4th. The event will feature Maurice Louca, El Waili, 3Phaz, Maryam Saleh and El Kontessa, bringing together a mix of original music and reinterpretations from the remix album.
Originally released in 2014, ‘Benhayyi Al-Baghbaghan’ blended experimental and electronic sounds with Mahraganat influences, making it a standout in the region’s music scene.
