This week on our rap radar is a cluster of new releases from across the region, featuring tracks from the likes of Didine Canon 16, Tawsen, and Nayomi.

First off is Moroccan trap sensation Draganov with a double-release, ‘Bon Courage’ and ‘Koudourou’, the latter of which features Ramoon on production with his signature fusion of afrobeat, dancehall and reggaton. ‘Bon Courage’, however, stands out as a self-care anthem. Draganov offers a gritting declaration of his intent to purge his life of toxic influences, starting from his closest circle. He reflects on his past, acknowledging how his upbringing rendered him with savage reflexes and too much negativity that he can’t erase. But instead of hiding his scars, the rapper chooses to own them with courage. The repetition of the chorus ‘bon courage’ serves as partly a wishful thinking for a rebirth, and partly a somewhat sarcastic farewell to those he leaves behind.

Egyptian up-and-coming rapper TURK debuts the first season of his own trilogy titled ‘MOSLSL TURK’, with four tracks showcasing his venture into a more experimental electronic sound. ‘Carbon’ anchors the record with its glitch-laden, fast-paced production, over which TURK layers fiery bars calling out his masked copycats.

Iraqi-Syrian rapper Nayomi unveils ‘24/7’, the first preview single of her upcoming EP, ‘Xoxo’. Produced by Alex Rios, the track is a carefree bop filled with dreamy pop sensibilities and catchy hooks and verses tackling relationships and longing.

Also featured this week are fresh tunes from Algeria’s one and only Didine Canon 16, Saudi Arabia’s AJ Truth, and Morocco’s Tawsen, along with Cairo-based rising rapper Mared teaming up with Yonyo on a beautifully unhinged track called, ‘Samo Fein?’
