In this instalment of ‘Rap of the Week’, SceneNoise’s flagship playlist spotlighting fresh releases from across the MENA rap and hip-hop scene, we round up new music from Abyusif, L’Morphine, Bu Kolthoum and more.

Tunisian rappers Frizzy and Kira7 join forces on ‘Risala’, trading verses in a relationship-centred trap tune that reflects on love, separation and the messages left unsent. Meanwhile, Egyptian rap heavyweights Abyusif and Arsenik finally release their long-awaited collaborative album, WW3. Spanning seven tracks, the project moves between trap, old-school hip-hop and shaabi-tinged rap, with the duo flexing their wordplay and taking aim at the wider rap scene.

Meanwhile, Moroccan rappers Gustavo 51 and ElGrandeToto link up on ‘Sabor’, bringing two prominent voices from the country’s hip-hop scene together. Sudanese rapper Wingz and Syrian lyricist Bu Kolthoum also join forces on ‘DJ Khaled’, alongside EL’MUTTBUKH, Gal3y and featured artist Malkom, for a collaborative cut that brings together a cross-section of the regional rap scene.

Additionally, Egyptian rapper Abo El Anwar returns with ‘007’, pairing breezy cadences with introspective writing on burnout, toxic relationships and the temptation to escape through late-night outings and temporary distractions.

Rounding out this week’s selection are Satti and Katbi’s ‘Droob’, L’Morphine’s ‘Teflon’ and Hala’s ‘Mafish Had Mertah’, adding further releases to another busy week for the region’s hip-hop scene.
