Select 402: Mixed by KEENA
The Jordanian singer and DJ takes over our Select with an Arabic-infused house and indie dance mix, featuring tracks from Franky Rizardo, Jimi Jules, alongside two of her own unreleased productions.
Taking the Select spotlight this week is Jordanian singer, DJ and composer KEENA, whose distinctive sound explores new ways of bringing original Arabic songwriting and vocals into contemporary electronic music. Her work has earned support from international electronic names including Adriatique, Bedouin, Dixon, Keinemusik, Jimi Jules and Pete Tong, while she has shared the stage with Adam Port, Rampa and Miss Monique.
Her Select mix moves through the deeper, more hypnotic side of her sound, with an eclectic selection of melodic, groove-led house, and emotionally charged records, favouring slow-burning progressions over immediate peaks. It opens with warm, playful grooves before gradually shifting into more cinematic and introspective territory. Along the way, KEENA threads together tracks from the likes of Jimi Jules, Notre Dame, Emanuel Satie, Nandu, Upercent, alongside two of her own unreleased productions, ‘Ya Nour 3eini’ and ‘Sama’. Together, the selections offer a glimpse into her evolving approach to contemporary Arab electronic music, where Arabic vocals and songwriting sit naturally within an electronic framework.
