Shahyn Circles Shaabi Rap and Old-Shcool Bounce on Latest EP ‘Taltesh'

As a longstanding cornerstone of Egyptian hip-hop, Alexandrian rapper Shahyn has been at the forefront of the scene for over a decade, witnessing multiple foundational shifts. On his four-track EP Taltesh, fully produced by Coolpix, Shahyn honors this legacy while stepping into the current sounds shaping the regional scene. Moving from lighter, club-oriented instrumentals to aggressive shaabi-laced boom-bap, Shahyn brandishes both his usual assertive tone, as well as a more laid-back, hook-centric sentiment.

The opener 'CEO' is the closest to Shahyn's established style Built around dark horns, synth solos, and intense shaabi rhythms, he comes in with a forecful cadence, taking aim at competitors and putting them in their place by reminding them who they’re up against, pointing to his work ethic and track record. The track maintains an explosive energy throughout, giving Shahyn room to unleash his grudges unimpeded.

The middle of the EP opens up to collaborators, shifting into different sonic territories. On ‘More’, Egyptian duo Double Zuksh supply a simple, melodic hook over a dancy beat, backed by synth lines that mirror the vocal melody. Shahyn adopts a smooth, relaxed delivery as he raps about the privileges of success, balancing the hype of Double Zuksh as they boast about their accomplishments and declare that they simply want more.

‘Kaffa’ speeds up the tempo, introducing a playful side to the EP. Here, fast shaabi percussion and cheeky instrumentation provide a backdrop for Mared’s ironic vocal style. Shahyn matches the playful energy as the two recount a story of courtship that evolves from a casual car ride to a wedding in no time.

The title track ‘Taltesh’ takes a different route, relying on Bling-era bounce and a smooth bassline. Delivered in a low, quiet register, Shahyn’s verses focus on trusting his instincts and moving on his own terms, while the choruses pick up a more combustive energy influenced by subtle shaabi elements.

Across the EP, Shahyn and Coolpix vary the production and energy to test out new formats, proving that Shahyn can step onto lighter, contemporary tracks while keeping his core identity intact and fully recognisable.

أما أغنية "تلطيش"، فتحمل اتجاهًا مختلفًا، مستندة إلى إيقاعات الـBling التي ميزت فترة معينة من الراب، إلى جانب خط بايس ناعم. يقدم شاهين كلماته بصوت منخفض وهادئ، مركزًا على الثقة في حدسه واختياره أن يسير وفق طريقته الخاصة، قبل أن تكتسب اللازمة طاقة أكبر بفضل لمسات شعبية خفيفة.
