The Ultimate Egyptian Sports Watchlist for the Rest of 2026

Following a busy summer that saw Egypt pick up medals at both the Mediterranean Games and the Modern Pentathlon World Championships, including three silvers at the latter, the country’s sporting calendar is only getting busier.

The final months of 2026 will bring world championships, major international tours and some of the biggest names in sport to Egypt, while Egyptian athletes and clubs will also be competing on stages across Africa and beyond.

From Al Ahly and Zamalek taking on some of the world’s best handball clubs to Cairo hosting the first-ever African edition of the Junior Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup Finals, there are plenty of reasons to tune in or show up. Here’s what Egyptian sports fans should have on their radar before the year wraps up.

[1] IHF Men’s Club World Championship

September 24th – October 1st, New Administrative Capital

The world’s best club handball teams are heading back to Egypt for a third consecutive edition of the IHF Men’s Club World Championship. The 10-team field includes Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly and Zamalek, alongside FC Barcelona, Füchse Berlin and Veszprém. The competition gets underway with preliminary matches on September 24, before the group phase begins the following day. Al Ahly are drawn alongside Füchse Berlin, while Zamalek enter the preliminary round against Los Angeles Handball Club.

[2] CIB Egyptian Open

October 5th – 16th, Giza

Egypt’s squash season returns to one of its biggest home stages as the CIB Egyptian Open brings the world’s best players back to Giza. The Diamond-level PSA event is one of the tour’s biggest tournaments, with the Pyramid backdrop once again putting Egyptian squash on a global stage. Egypt’s dominance of the sport also means there should be plenty of home names to follow throughout the draw.

[3] Junior Davis Cup & Junior Billie Jean King Cup Finals

November 2nd – 8th, Cairo

Cairo will make tennis history this November when it hosts the Junior Davis Cup and Junior Billie Jean King Cup Finals. It will be the first time the prestigious under-16 national team finals have been held in Africa, bringing 16 boys' and 16 girls' national teams to Smash Sporting Club. Egypt will also qualify automatically as host nation.

The event could also offer a glimpse of some of the next generation of players who will eventually make the jump to the senior tour.

[4] Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games

October 31st – November 13th, Dakar, Senegal

Egypt’s next generation of athletes will head to Dakar for a historic edition of the Youth Olympic Games. Dakar 2026 will be the first Olympic or Youth Olympic event ever staged in Africa, with around 2,700 athletes competing across 25 sports.

Egypt has a strong record at youth multi-sport competitions, making this one to follow as the country’s future Olympic stars take on the continent’s biggest sporting stage.

[5] CAF Champions League & Confederation Cup

September 2026 – May 2027, across Africa

Egyptian club football returns to continental competition in September, with the new CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup campaigns getting underway with preliminary rounds from September 4th. The group stages will run from November through January, before the knockout rounds culminate in May 2027.

For Egyptian fans, the competitions mean another season of following the country’s clubs against Africa’s best, with the Champions League carrying a USD 6 million winner’s prize and the Confederation Cup winner receiving USD 4 million.

[6] HYROX Cairo

November 14th – 15th, Egypt International Exhibition Center, Cairo

HYROX is coming to Cairo for the first time, bringing the global fitness-racing format to Egypt. Competitors will combine running with functional fitness stations across individual, doubles, adaptive and relay divisions, with professional races also on the weekend programme.

It is also one of the more accessible events on the calendar, with spectators able to watch the races inside the Egypt International Exhibition Center. HYROX itself is billing Cairo as its first-ever race in Egypt.

[7] FIE Cairo World Cup — Men’s Sabre

November 12th – 15th, Cairo

The world’s leading sabre fencers will return to Cairo for an FIE World Cup, with individual and team competition across four days. The event is part of the senior World Cup circuit and will feature both men’s and women’s sabre, alongside team competitions. Egypt’s team will be one to watch, especially after their victory of the men's épée team over Israel became a major talking point online and brought a fresh wave of attention to the team.

[8] El Gouna Water Sports Festival Vol. 6

September 17th – 26th, El Gouna

El Gouna will turn into a watersports playground for the sixth edition of its Water Sports Festival. The festival brings together a range of watersports against the Red Sea backdrop, adding an international-style competition and lifestyle element to one of Egypt’s busiest sporting destinations.

With OCEANMAN taking place during the same week, El Gouna is set to become a particularly busy hub for endurance and watersports in September.

[9] Longines Global Champions Tour Cairo

October 22nd – 24th, Cairo

Cairo is joining one of the world's biggest show-jumping circuits in 2026, with the Longines Global Champions Tour making its debut in Egypt. The new stop will bring elite horse-and-rider combinations to Cairo as part of the tour's global calendar, with the individual Grand Prix and team GCL competition both forming part of the weekend.

It is one of the year's biggest new international sporting arrivals in Egypt — and a rare chance to watch the global show-jumping elite compete on home soil.

[10] IRONMAN 70.3 Sharm El-Sheikh

October 16th, Sharm El-Sheikh

IRONMAN 70.3 is heading to Sharm El-Sheikh for a new Red Sea edition of its half-distance triathlon. Athletes will swim in Naama Bay before taking on a 90-kilometre bike course and a 21.1-kilometre run along the coast, giving the race a distinctly Red Sea setting.

The move to Sharm El-Sheikh marks a new chapter for the Egyptian IRONMAN 70.3 race after previous editions were held in Sahl Hasheesh.

[11] OCEANMAN El Gouna

September 17th – 19th, El Gouna

Open-water swimming comes to El Gouna as OCEANMAN returns to the Red Sea. The programme includes a 10km Oceanman, 5km Half Oceanman and 2km Sprint, alongside shorter races for younger swimmers and team events.

The event adds another international endurance competition to El Gouna's September calendar, with the main races taking place on September 19th.

[12] International Wheelchair Basketball Federation 3x3 Open World Championships

November 26th – 28th, Cairo

Cairo will host the IWBF 3x3 Open World Championships for men and women, bringing wheelchair basketball teams from around the world to Egypt for three days of fast-paced competition. The event is an open World Championship, meaning nations can enter without qualification, and is being hosted by the Egyptian Wheelchair Basketball Federation.

The 3x3 format offers a faster version of wheelchair basketball, with the IWBF positioning it as a more accessible and spectator-friendly format for the sport's continued growth.

[13] VICTOR BWF World Junior Championships

October 5th – 17th, Cairo

The world's best young badminton players will descend on Cairo for the VICTOR BWF World Junior Championships, with 50 countries expected to compete at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex. The 2026 edition will mark the first time the championships have been held in Egypt, making it a landmark event for Egyptian badminton.

The tournament will feature both team and individual competition, giving Egyptian juniors the chance to compete against some of the strongest young players from around the world.
