EgyptAir Expands Asia-Pacific Network With New Route to Shanghai

EgyptAir is set to expand its Asia-Pacific network by introducing a new route to Shanghai, China. Beginning on November 16th, the airline will operate three weekly flights connecting Cairo International Airport (CAI) and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG). The outbound flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with return flights the following day. EgyptAir plans to utilize Boeing 777-300 aircraft for the 5,198 mile route.

With the addition of Shanghai, EgyptAir now serves four Chinese cities, including Beijing, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou. By December, the airline's Asia-Pacific network will further expand to include Dhaka (Bangladesh), Jakarta (Indonesia), Mumbai, New Delhi (India), and Tokyo Narita (Japan), bringing the total number of destinations in the region to nine.

The introduction of the new service signifies the reestablishment of direct air connectivity between Egypt and Shanghai, reconnecting the two after a five-year hiatus. Previously, Air Leisure, a charter carrier based in Cairo which is no longer operational, operated weekly flights between Aswan International Airport and PVG using Airbus A330-200 aircraft until suspending operations in October 2018.
