Glimpses of AlUla's Sharaan by Jean Nouvel Have Been Revealed

Designed by the renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, - the architectural maestro behind the Louvre Abu Dhabi and The National Museum of Qatar - construction has just begun on the Sharaan Resort and International Summit Centre in the ancient Saudi city of AlUla, which will be built directly into the ancient mountains of the Sharaan Nature Reserve.

With respect for its mountainous surroundings, which are thought to date over 500 million years, the luxury resort aims to be a zero water waste sustainable haven. The resort plans to minimise the use of potable water and recycle all treatable wastewater for irrigation and other purposes, bringing a touch of modernity to the historic site.

Working closely with geologists and local experts, construction is set to ensure that the design of the resort remains in harmony with its natural surroundings, drawing inspiration from the neighbouring sandstone cliffs.

Comprising 38 suites, a spa and wellness centre, kids club, sport studio, all-day dining restaurant and business hub, the luxury destination will be an oasis of tranquillity. The resort's crowning glory will be a signature fine-dining restaurant sitting atop the mountain, offering stunning views of the beautiful terrains around them. The resort’s Summit Centre - nestled inside a neighbouring mountain - is set to include 13 hospitality pavilions and two private villas ready to cater to the needs of business travellers and leaders partaking in its hosted events.

Although no completion date has been set for the time being, the project is expected to be built with a reverence for the natural history of AlUla in line with the Kingdom’s 2030 Vision.
