The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has begun work on restoring Marina El Alamein, an ancient archaeological site located about five kilometres east of the resort city of El Alamein.
The site is a snapshot of life during the Ptolemaic and Roman eras of Egyptian history, with a residential neighbourhood, a city market, a Roman bath and basilica, a Ptolemaic bath with a city cistern, as well as many cemeteries of various sizes.
This archaeological site will be open to the public once the restoration is complete.
