RTA Improves Al Meydan Link Between Sheikh Zayed & Al Khail
Dubai’s RTA has enhanced Al Meydan Street with lane expansions and bridge upgrades to improve connectivity and cut congestion between Sheikh Zayed and Al Khail Roads by up to 40%.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a series of upgrades to Al Meydan Street aimed at improving traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. The enhancements are expected to significantly ease congestion and reduce travel times, particularly during peak hours.
Key improvements include the widening of the exit from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Meydan Street from one lane to two, as well as the expansion of the bridge over First Al Khail Road from three lanes to four in both directions. Ramps connecting the surface road to the bridge were also widened, doubling their capacity and facilitating smoother access to Al Khail Road and Al Meydan Street.
Exit No. D69, a key route for vehicles transitioning from Sheikh Zayed Road, was expanded from one to two lanes, raising its capacity from 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles per hour. As a result, travel times during rush hours have dropped by up to 40 percent, and vehicle queues have been cut by half. Similarly, the bridge’s capacity increased from 4,500 to 6,000 vehicles per hour, with crossing times during peak periods reduced from seven minutes to four.
Congestion and waiting times on the ramps connecting to the bridge have also seen a reduction of more than 50%, particularly noticeable during midday and evening traffic peaks. The upgrades form part of RTA’s larger master plan, which includes more than 75 traffic improvement projects scheduled for completion across the city by 2025.
