Egypt to Receive 365 Subway Vehicles Worth USD 656 Million
The contract, valued at USD 656 million, will include a two-year warranty, a maintenance period of eight years and one massive overhaul per train.
The National Authority for Tunnels and a number of companies - including South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem and the National Egyptian Railway Industries Companies (NERIC) - signed a new deal earlier this week to manufacture and supply 40 new trains, creating 320 subway vehicles overall for the second and third lines of the metro.
The contract, valued at USD 656 million, will include a two-year warranty, a maintenance period of eight years and one massive overhaul per train. The project will sit on an area of about 300,00 sq metres in the industrial zone of East Port Said. This collaboration between the industrial areas and ports is expected to also benefit Egypt’s import and export, and help the country become a major industrial force in the field.
