In 2019, Egyptian AP photojournalists Nariman El-Mofty and Maggie Michael won a Pulitzer prize in international reporting alongside Yemeni Maad al-Zikry for their coverage of Yemen’s civil war. In doing so, they became the first Egyptian women photojournalists to ever win a Pulitzer prize.
An Associated Press team - which included Nariman El-Mofty as well as photojournalists Evgeniy Maloletka from Ukraine, Bernat Armangue and Emilio Morenatti from Spain, Brazilian Felipe Dana, Argentinian Rodrigo Abd and Romanian Vadim Ghirda - collectively won the Pulitzer's Breaking News Photography award for their coverage of the war in Ukraine.
