Two New Textile Hubs to Be Built in Minya & Fayoum

Two large-scale textile industrial hubs will be developed in the governorates of Minya and Fayoum as part of a national strategy to revitalise the textile sector, increase exports, and create hundreds of thousands of jobs.

Spanning a combined 11 million square metres—5.5 million sqm in each governorate—the complexes will be constructed under the industrial developer model, involving private sector participation in planning, construction, operations, and global marketing.

Unveiled by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir, the plan targets increasing Egypt’s textile and garment exports from USD 2.8 billion to USD 11.5 billion over the next five years. The sector, which currently contributes about 14% to the GDP, is expected to rise to more than 20% under the new strategy.

The Minya textile city, the first of its kind in Upper Egypt, is projected to attract USD 1.5 billion in investment and generate around 250,000 direct and indirect job opportunities. It will be located near major transport arteries and ports including Ain Sokhna and Safaga.

Meanwhile, the Fayoum site will benefit from its proximity to Cairo and key logistical centres such as the dry port in New October City. Also projected to attract USD 1.5 billion in investment, the Fayoum facility is expected to create 150,000 jobs and serve a consumer market of over 50 million people across six neighbouring governorates.

Both sites will offer integrated manufacturing infrastructure to cover all stages of textile production—from spinning and weaving to garment assembly. They will also include supporting services such as logistics zones, industrial service centres, vocational schools specialising in textile technology, investor support hubs, healthcare and R&D facilities, and dedicated exhibition and marketing spaces.
