Naturalised Egyptian Women Can Now Pass Down Citizenship to Children
This amendment in the nationality law hopes to establish greater equality between men and women in Egypt.
Apr 13, 2023
Under a new amendment in Egypt’s nationality law, expat women who acquired Egyptian citizenship can now pass it on to their children.
This comes as a result of the parliament amending the 1975 Egyptian law regulating naturalisation to ease requirements for acquiring Egyptian nationality. Previously, only men were able to pass their Egyptian citizenship to their children.
Meanwhile, this change is in line with the Egyptian 2014 constitution, which obligates the state to achieve equality between men and women.
