These Bikers are Cycling 655km to Sharm El Sheikh for COP27
To raise awareness on climate action and promote Egypt-UAE relations, these four men are paddling to COP27.
With the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference less than a month away, athletes from all corners of the world have been taking on physical challenges to raise awareness on climate action. Joining them are four men - Egyptian organiser Yusef Ahmed, cycling enthusiast Galal Zekri, Eco Egypt Experiences Project Manager Mohamed Elewa, and German UAE-based bike store owner Wolfgang Hohmann - who will be getting on their bikes and cycling a full 655 km from the New Administrative Capital to the conference in Sharm El Sheikh.
Over the course of six days, the quarter will depart from the New Administrative Capital’s German International University on October 27th for their ‘COP27 by Bike’ excursion. Through this challenge, the group hopes to promote sustainability while promoting ties between Egypt and the UAE, especially since the UAE will serve as the host nation for next year’s COP conference.
The adventure roadmap is as follows: the group will bike from Cairo to Suez and Ras Sedr, before making a pitstop at the foot of Mount Sinai at St. Catherine. Then, they’ll head to Dahab before making their way to their final destination: the International Convention Centre in Sharm El Sheikh.
