Gammbaz Enchants with Simply-Handpoured Soy Scented Candles

Gen-Z has been shining a fresh light on a lot of issues lately. Candles, for instance. Sure, scented candles are mesmerizing, hypnotizing, enchanting, just the thing to spice up that dinner date or even elevate that self-date you’ve scheduled in the bathtub. No shame in that. The nostalgic smell of granny smith apples, or the mouthwatering scent of blueberry muffins - it’s all great until you think about the bees. Those little guys are basically all that separates us from total obliteration. They’ve got enough problems in their busy lives without their wax being used to light things on fire. But 13-year-old Alia Osman has found another way, and has been using her brand Gammbaz to support a good cause.

“Due to COVID I had a lot of free time and wanted to do something for a good cause and started selling my candles last January,” Osman tells #CairoScene. “So I started making candles and decided that every EGP10 from the candles I sell will go to the Ahl Masr Foundation for burn victims.”

Hand poured using soy as the main ingredient, Osman’s candles are eco-friendly and cruelty-free. Using scents shipped in from the US, she has been able to sell a variety of flavours that she otherwise had trouble finding in Egypt.
