How the New Administrative Capital Will be Egypt’s Smartest City

The New Administrative Capital is set up to be Egypt’s first ‘smart city’, equipped with a host of advanced technology systems designed to make life seamless for the 6.5 million citizens who are projected to live there in the near future. With its 21 residential districts, 25 “dedicated districts”, 663 medical centres, 2,000 education institutions and a major theme park four times the size of Disneyland, residents will be able to - almost literally - hold the city in the palm of their hands.

Head of technology for the New Administrative Capital for Urban Development, Mohamed Khalil, affirmed that “citizens will be able to manage all their life affairs from their mobile phone.” To make this a reality, residents will be provided with smart cards alongside a single mobile app, which will allow them to make payments, report residential issues, unlock doors and access local services throughout the city. These features will be constantly within reach thanks to the public WiFi network, which will reportedly be beamed from the New Administrative Capital’s lampposts.
