New Administrative Capital Monorail to Begin Trial Period in July

The National Authority for Tunnels announced that the New Administrative Capital Monorail will begin trial operations without passengers starting in July. The first phase will run from the Capital Station to El-Moshir Station, with an extension reaching Cairo Stadium Station in Nasr City by the end of the year. Full trial operations across the entire line are expected to begin in early 2026.

The East Nile Monorail project includes 22 stations, along with a central control and monitoring centre. One of the standout features of the monorail is that it operates without a driver, controlled instead by a centralised command unit in the New Administrative Capital.

The project stretches 56.5 kilometres from Cairo Stadium Station in Nasr City to the monorail’s central command centre in the New Administrative Capital. Together, the East and West Nile monorail lines will cover a combined distance of 100 kilometres with 35 stations. Each monorail train currently consists of four carriages, with plans to expand to eight carriages in the future to accommodate the growing population in the new urban areas the system will serve.
