XP Conversations: Autostrad
Jordanian band Autostrad reflects on the ideas that shaped their long-running journey, from embracing change and experimentation to staying connected with different generations of listeners.
Autostrad has become one of the defining names in Jordan’s independent music scene, developing a distinct approach to rock that helped shape the region’s alternative landscape. Formed in 2007, the Jordanian sextet built their sonic identity by blending reggae, funk, Latin rhythms, and rock with Arab Mediterranean scales and everyday colloquial language, creating music rooted in the experiences and perspectives of Arab youth. Their work offered an alternative to the mainstream Arab pop landscape of the time and contributed to the growth of a wider independent music movement across the region.
In the latest episode of XP Conversations, Autostrad members reflect on the ideas that have shaped their long-running journey, from embracing change and experimentation to staying connected with different generations of listeners. They discuss music as an evolving form of communication and the role of a supportive creative ecosystem in allowing artists to exchange ideas, develop their craft, and push the scene forward.
Having been part of the early wave of independent music projects in the region, the band also looks back on the growth of the scene and the importance of collaboration in creating spaces where artists can express themselves and learn from one another.
